Dr. Joann M. Weiner

Hi there.  My name's Joann Weiner and I an Associate Professor of Economics and Director of the Master of Science in Applied Economics at the George Washington University. This program teaches students, i.e., you!, how to apply economic theory in the real world and my main goal is to help you develop the skills that you need to think like an economist and then to get a job as an applied economist. I've been an academic for a long time. But, I have also worked in the public and the private sector, both in the United States and abroad, so I've applied my economic skills in lots of different settings. Outside of the applied economics program, I do research on tax policy, the gig economy - think Uber and Lyft - and on European Union tax reform. All in all, I have a good life as an economist and I'm happy to help you develop such joy in what you do.
